About HACT

HACT was established in 1960 by affordable housing providers committed to social impact through housing.

For over 50 years, HACT has worked closely with affordable housing providers to deliver that vision.  Initially through the provision of charitable funding to the establishment of community based housing associations and the developlemt of innovative housing solutions for older people.

More recently, HACT has sought to invest in pilot projects and support networks aimed at developing new approaches to meeting the housing needs of the most vulnerable, marginalised and excluded, and build the strength and resilience of the communities they live in.

We remain as committed today as we’ve ever been to the principles that helped forge the voluntary housing movement, with a consistent focus on the way housing can transform communities and make a difference to those in the greatest need.

We believe that the provision of housing must be about more than just bricks and mortar – that housing providers are at their most successful when they value and engage with their communities, harness the energy and enthusiasm of local people, and actively seek to identify and meet the needs of those at the margins.

Partnership will always be central to our work – we are a small organisation with low overheads that delivers with and through others.

Our contribution comes from bringing people together and sharing our ideas, ideals and inspiration with theirs to jointly achieve change.

We focus on action and solutions – working with the housing sector, government, civil society and neighbourhood level groups to develop innovative approaches to building the strength of communities and better meeting housing need.
